Active Engagement in Learning Communities

12th/13th November 2009

CEEBL C24 Sackville Street Building

This event is an opportunity for students to come together and share experiences of active engagement in learning communities.

The event will start with a Market Place at 4pm on Thursday 12th November, including an 'inspiration wall', stalls, posters and videos, where delegates will have the opportunity to network and share. A hot Mexican buffet will also be provided from 6pm.

Friday 13th November will consist of a keynote by Professor Sally Brown (Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Leeds Metropolitan University), presentations from students and an afternoon of interactive workshops.

The event will end with the Student Learning and Teaching Network AGM where delegates will have an opportunity to input into the networks plans for the coming year.

A full programme will be available to download nearer the time.

What is the Student Network?

The Student Learning and Teaching Network is an informal community of students actively engaged in learning and teaching.  It is coordinated by a committee of volunteers made up of students and recent graduates. As a network, our core aim is to promote students as valid and active members of learning communities.

What will I get out of it?

As a delegate you will have the opportunity to network with peers and representatives from education organisations, share your experiences and plan some ideas to take back to your institution. You will also have an opportunity to become a member of the SLTN, where you can continue to network through our interactive online site and receive regular updates of our activities, student workshops and other events.

Do you want to take part?

Registration for the conference is free. Delegates will only pay for their accommodation, details of which can be found below.

To register as a delegate please email studentvoice@manchester.ac.uk and include the following information:

If you are a student, please include your discipline, level and whether you would like to reserve a poster slot (see details below).

If you are representing an education organisation, please include your department and job title.

Registration for the event will now be available until Friday 23rd October however after 12th October any accommodation arrangements will need to be made by delegates themselves.

Any queries can also be directed to the above email address.

Guidelines for posters

We are looking for students to display posters at our Market Place session on 12th November, on your experiences of active engagement in learning communities and what this means to you. You may choose to focus on curricular or extra-curricular activities you have been involved in.

If you would like some advice on creating posters you can refer to this online tutorial from the University of Leicester.
